Richard Holden Announced as the 2015 Leadership in Diversity Award Winner

AAJA is pleased to announce Richard S. Holden as the winner of the 2015 Leadership in Diversity Award.

This award honors an individual or organization that has been making strides in promoting and demonstrating diversity in the news media industry. The Leadership in Diversity Award winner is selected by the AAJA National Board.

Richard Holden was the executive director of the Dow Jones News Fund from 1992 until his retirement in 2014. Before that, he spent 20 years in various editing positions at The Wall Street Journal in New York and The Asian Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong, where he was one of its founding editors in 1976. While at the Asian Journal, Mr. Holden spent three years teaching editing and business reporting at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His last position at The Wall Street Journal was senior editor overseeing the recruiting, hiring and training of the editors at the newspaper.

In addition, Mr. Holden spent more than 25 years as a faculty member at the Maynard Institute’s Editing Program for Minority Journalists at the University of Arizona and the University of Nevada-Reno

He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Journalism from the University of Missouri, and serves/has served on advisory boards at the University of Arizona, Howard University, and Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. 

Richard will be honored and presented with the award at the 2015 AAJA National Convention Gala Scholarship & Awards Banquet on Saturday, August 15 at 7:00 pm.
