Meeting Minutes Spring 2007
The AAJA National (Advisory & Governing) Board met for its annual spring meeting in Miami March 16-17. At the meeting, the following actions were taken:
Summary
* The Governing Board passed a bylaws revision making 10 the minimum number of full members needed to petition for chapter status. This is an increase from the current minimum of 5 full members.
* The Governing Board passed a set of guidelines for groups seeking chapter pre-certification status, outlining steps the petitioning group and the Board should follow.
* The Advisory Board elected Matt Dunn of the San Francisco-Bay Area chapter to a vacant seat on the Governing Board.
* Advisory Board members will be seeking input from their chapter members on the following issues. Discussions on these issues began at this spring Board meeting, and there will likely be votes on these issues at the summer Board meeting:
- Membership dues
- Corporate membership for non-media companies
- Fundraising guidelines
- Accepting advertising on AAJA's national Web site
- Formation of a national awards committee
- Requiring each chapter to designate a MediaWatch liaison
- Bylaws revisions
Your chapter's national board representative should be giving you a summary of the discussion on these issues and asking for your feedback on them.
* At the upcoming summer Board meeting, the Board will be taking bids from chapters to host the 2010 convention. If your chapter is interested in hosting, please ask your national board representative, or the national office, for the handouts on criteria and guidelines for convention hosting.
