The AAJA Governing Board met for its annual fall meeting Nov. 9-10, 2007 in San Francisco.
Summary
At the meeting, the Board took the following actions:
* Approved the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel as site of the 2010 AAJA national convention.
* Approved the 2008 budget.
* Voted down a motion to increase membership dues by $5 for 2009. The Board directed the membership committee to draft a new proposal with a larger increase in 2009, to reflect the rise in programming and operational costs. The membership committee was also asked to propose a platinum membership category.
* Approved Lu’isa Mataele, production assistant at a cable sports station in Denver, as the at-large members’ representative to the National Board.
* Set March 7-8 in San Francisco as the date for the Spring 2008 National Board Meeting.
* Set July 26 in Chicago as the date for the Summer 2008 National Board Meeting. The Advisory Board will meet in the morning and the Governing Board in the afternoon. If it is determined at the Spring Board Meeting that more time is needed at the Summer Board Meeting, the afternoon of July 23 will be set aside.
In addition, the Board heard the following:
* President Jeanne Mariani-Belding announced the members of the Executive Director search committee: Victor Panichkul, former National President; Sharon Prill, former National Treasurer and former National Secretary; and Stanton Tang, former National Vice President for Broadcast.
* Mariani-Belding appointed Jam Sardar as the AAJA representative to RTNDA
* MediaWatch co-chair Cheryl Tan announced that Maya Blackmun of the Portland chapter is taking over from Abe Kwok of Arizona as the new MediaWatch co-chair.
