Twenty-one journalists completed the Executive Leadership Program Introductory Session, held February 25 to March 1 at Gannett Co., Inc. Corporate Headquarters in McLean, VA. near Washington D.C. The participants, who are among 381 ELP graduates since the program began in 1995, examined how Asian American and Pacific Islander cultural values come into play in newsroom dynamics. They also learned about leadership styles and strategies and how to develop career choices and set workplace goals.

Chelsea Phua, a staff writer at The Sacramento Bee and a participant at ELP said, "The program has given me insight into the workings of the newsroom, and taught me to be more aware of its political dimension. The experience has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and taught me the importance of articulating my ideas in an effective way."

Sherry Ly, a reporter at WTTG/FOX5 in Washington D.C. added, "I never dreamed I would emerge from ELP not just a better leader but a better person. When people tell you that ELP is a great program it's that and more but until you experience it you cannot understand the impact it has on your career and life."
