The Naming Game

Illegal immigration is undoubtedly a politically-charged, albeit extremely emotional issue that continues to be the subject of intense debate. In the news media, it is an issue that presents various standards and practice in the naming convention as it relates to subject individuals. AAJA Announces Special Award Winners

AAJA announced the winners of three of its top awards for 2008: Dith Pran (posthumous), former photographer of The New York Times; Simon Li, former assistant managing editor of the Los Angeles Times; and Dori Maynard, president and chief executive officer of The Robert C. AAJA Awards $126,750 in Scholarships in 2008

The Asian American Journalists Association announces the 2008 recipients of its national journalism scholarship and internship programs.

"We’re pleased to be able to help these promising young journalists," said Jeanne Mariani-Belding, AAJA’s national president. "Our scholarship, internship and other student programs contribute to the future of our industry by ensuring that there continues to be a stream of skilled young journalists of color in the pipeline. Broadcaster Tim Russert Dies

Russert spoke at AAJA's J Camp 2004 in Washington D.C. He was NBC News' Washington bureau chief and moderator of "Meet the Press." He died Friday, June 13 at age 58. June 13, 2008


UNITY '08 Convention to Feature Prime-time Presidential Candidates' Forum

The Democratic and Republican frontrunners are slated to appear at the Presidential Candidates' Forum at UNITY '08 in Chicago July 24. A panel of working journalists from the four alliance partners will pose questions to the candidates with a live CNN telecast. Read the press release.
