The Asian American Journalists Association is a recipient of a $25,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation ‘s Excelerator grant program.
The new grant will support enhancements to AAJA’s national and convention Web sites and provide multimedia training to student and professional members. It will enable AAJA to acquire a digital video camera as well as video editing equipment that will be utilized in the production of video clips to be posted on the AAJA Web sites. In addition, AAJA members and staff will be able to participate in video production training at the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco.
“The video equipment fills a gap in our convention student multimedia project while allowing AAJA members to contribute multimedia clips to enhance our Web sites,” according to AAJA Executive Director Rene Astudillo. “The training component of the grant will also help AAJA members to acquire multimedia skills that are not always available, especially to freelance journalists,” he added.
AT&T Excelerator helps nonprofit organizations meet their missions by improving technology resources, including hardware, software and networking tools. The grants also help nonprofit organizations put technology tools into the hands of the communities they serve, providing resources such as Internet access, computer training, math and reading programs, and job skills development.
A total of $9 million in AT&T Excelerator competitive grants were awarded to 680 organizations across the country in 2007.
