EDITOR
The Associated Press seeks a News Editor for its bureau in New Orleans. The news editor provides leadership and management of editorial operations in Louisiana, planning and supervising spot and enterprise coverage of the state for newspapers, broadcast stations and Web sites. The news editor works with the bureau chief, national editors and a staff of 11 in New Orleans and two in Baton Rouge, pushing for aggressive news coverage, developing creative story ideas and leading daily news meetings and weekly planning sessions. This person works with the bureau chief to set goals and measure progress, taking the lead on staff development efforts through training, feedback and recruitment. NEWSPERSON

NEWSPERSON

CHIEF OF BUREAU
The Associated Press seeks a Chief of Bureau for the Mid-Atlantic, based in Washington, D.C. The Chief of Bureau provides leadership and management of editorial, marketing and administrative operations in a new territory that includes Maryland, Delaware, northern Virginia and the city of Washington, D.C. An editorial priority will be developing coverage of the Washington Metro area, producing issue- and beat-driven multimedia coverage for a regional, national and international audience on issues not related to the federal government and national politics, which will remain the responsibility of the AP's Washington bureau. The University of Missouri-Columbia and its internationally recognized School of Journalism are searching for a multi-talented faculty member to serve as director of the Center for the Religion, the Professions and the Public (http://rpp.missouri.edu), which was recently awarded a $1.5 million renewal grant by The Pew Charitable Trusts of Philadelphia. Through research, teaching and public outreach, the Center's faculty affiliates and staff seek to foster religious literacy within the professions and create new knowledge of how the interplay of journalism, religion and the professions shape and are shaped by the increasing religious and cultural diversity of America. The Center will continue to offer instruction in Journalism, Religion and Public Life; Religion Reporting and Writing; and Religion and the Professions. The successful candidate will be expected to cultivate and articulate clearly a long-range academic vision and continue to define a consensual agenda of interdisciplinary and cross-professional research, teaching and public outreach. He or she will be expected to be a careful steward of the Center's grant and successfully seek gifts, other grants and endowments that will help journalism, the academy and the professions improve the quality of American public life. QUALIFICATIONS. A Ph.D. degree in journalism and mass communication (or another appropriate discipline) or the equivalent of a Ph.D. in high-level professional experience in the news media at the national and/or international levels; research experience and active interests that support the Center's goals; a collegial approach to leadership and management; writing and editing skills; and commitment to diversity in the academic community.
