The May 3 cyclone in Burma may have killed 22,500 people in a nation run by a secretive military junta. Global aid offered to the nation has been stalled by the military which has refused entry to assistance teams. Last September, Buddhist protests in Burma received international attention as the military cracked down on demonstrators, and killed a Japanese journalist on assignment.
