Vietnamese Commencement Speech in New Orleans Sparks Controversy

Two high school co-valedictorians gave a commencement speech partially in Vietnamese, with verbal translation. The school board is thus considering an English-only policy for future commencement speeches. A Vietnamese American organization says such policy threatens multilingual communities in the Gulf Coast region.
