Weddings, babies and the Olympics (which started at 8:08:08 p.m.) are being celebrated because of the number 8, which is considered lucky in China. The fascination, however, extends to Chinese Americans, with weddings, buffets and casino tours planned. The Los Angeles Times reports a surge in vows in Palm Springs and Las Vegas.
