Two Oakland, California SWAT team officers killed March 21 were Asian American. Sgt. Daniel Sakai, 35, and Sgt. Ervin Romans, 43, were killed after confronting an armed suspect who hours earlier gunned down two patrol officers during a traffic stop. Captain Edward Tracey, SWAT and Traffic Commander of the Oakland Police Department and an Asian American, spoke at the memorial service, as seen on KTVU. New York City police Lt. Tommy Ng attended the memorial service and was quoted in the New York Times.
