May 3, 2009

After a brief illness, poet and Filipino American activist Al Robles passed away May 2 from Guillian-Barre Syndrome. Robles was involved with the International Hotel struggle for the manongs in San Francisco's Manilatown during the 1970s and has been part of many Filipino and Asian American community issues since then, particularly helping the elderly. His poetry reflected what he saw in the community and he educated people through his readings.

There will be a memorial service for Al Robles at SomArts in San Francisco, Sunday, May 17, noon- 5 p.m. More info>>>>
