The Project for Excellence in Journalism just released its annual comprehensive report, The The State of the News Media 2008. The publication is web only, but is equivalent to 700 printed pages in very specific and detailed sections. From the reports intro: "The state of the American news media in 2008 is more troubled than a year ago. And the problems, increasingly, appear to be different than many experts have predicted."
