FRED KATAYAMA JOINS REUTERS AS ANCHOR OF WORLD UPDATES AND INDUSTRY SUMMITS

New York - Reuters has appointed Fred Katayama as Anchor, in the U.S., for its daily global news broadcast "World Updates" and for "Reuters Industry Summits" where he'll be conducting in-depth interviews with various business leaders and executives worldwide.
The move is one of a number of new hires designed to support Reuters plans to grow its media business by offering a series of new digital and video services targeted at consumers in the areas of news, business information and financial investments. Based in New York, he joins a team headed by Global Managing Editor for Consumer Services Dean Wright, who recently joined Reuters from MSNBC.com.
An award-winning, veteran correspondent, Katayama most recently worked for CNN where he anchored international business and consumer news shows and reported on breaking news events. Previously, he worked as a reporter for KIRO-TV in Seattle, WA and for NHK as a reporter on “Japan Business Today� which aired on CNBC.
He began his career at the Associated Press as a general assignment reporter in Tokyo before moving to Fortune Magazine as a correspondent in both Japan and New York. He holds a master's degree in journalism and a bachelors' in East Asian studies from Columbia University.
Katayama joins London-based anchor Richard Edgar and a team of 20 reporters and producers around the world, delivering news on Reuters.com as well as on Reuters interactive and mobile services 24/7.
