Mae Cheng Becomes <i>Newsday</i>'s Regional Editor

Mae Cheng

Mae Cheng, former AAJA president and currently UNITY president, has been named the new regional editor of Newsday.

Mae has been with Newsday for 12 years and was the assistant city editor for two years prior to her promotion.

She was the president of AAJA from 2003 until 2005 when she was elected as the new UNITY President.

"My experiences with AAJA and UNITY have helped me to appreciate the importance of having more journalists of color in editing positions," Mae said. "[That is] where decisions about coverage are made and where you sometimes get a seat for discussions in which other management decisions are made."

Mae was also part of AAJA's Executive Leadership Program Class of 1998 (New York).
