Mi-Ai Parrish Named Publisher of The Idaho Statesman

AAJA member Mi-Ai Parrish was named publisher of The Idaho Statesman, according to an announcement released today by The McClatchy Company. Parrish is currently deputy managing director for features and visuals for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, McClatchy's largest newspaper.

A former national board member representing the AAJA Arizona chapter, Parrish has held key positions at the San Francisco Chronicle, The Arizona Republic, the Chicago Sun-Times and The Virginian-Pilot.

Parrish becomes one of only three known Asian American publishers of a U.S. mainstream newspaper, according to Rene Astudillo, AAJA executive director. The other two are Christine Chin, publisher and CEO at the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a Gannett paper in Fort Collins, Colorado and Ketan Gandhi, publisher of Home News Tribune , another Gannett paper in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Ms Chin was formerly the publisher of the The Bellingham Herald in Washington state.
