June 12, 2008: Lisa Takeuchi Cullen and her husband welcomed their new daughter Kana Edythe Cullen, born on June 12. She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.

May 30, 2008: Highlights of the oral history series "Yielding the Floor: Reflections of Asian Pacific Americans in the Nation's Capitol" will air on Saturday, May 31, 6:00am on Channel 26, KTSF-TV in San Francisco. E. Samantha Cheng, executive producer/vice president of Television Production Services, Inc. developed the program. Cheng received the AAJA Special Recognition Award in 2004.

May 9, 2008: George Kiriyama, News Reporter for NBC11 News-KNTV, was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the documentary "Dreams To Dust: Americans Interned," about the Japanese American uprooting 65 years ago.

April 25, 2008: Jeannie Park, former editor, Time Inc. Magazines, and Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, staff writer at TIME and ELP Class of 2008 graduate, have been named finalists for the Magazine Publishers of America Magazine inaugural Mentor of the Year Award. Eleven finalists were named, recognizing those who have aided a fellow magazine professional's career and promoted diversity in the magazine industry.

April 25, 2008: Betty Nguyen, anchor of the Weekend Edition of CNN, has been named one of this year's Outstanding Young Texas EX Award recipients. The University of Texas alums will honor her at a dinner in Austin on May 17. She is a graduate of the ELP Class of 2007 in New York City.

April 18, 2008: Pradeep Kaphle was part of the Federation of Nepali Journalists recognized by the International Press Freedom and Freedom of Expression Mission to Nepal for election coverage April 10.

April 18, 2008: Hanah Cho, business reporter for The Baltimore Sun, was a participant in the 2008 Korea-United States Journalists Exchange, which transpired April 1 – 17, 2008. She was a 2008 Camp AAJA member.

Jan. 14, 2008: Patti Tom and her husband Jamey Watt welcomed their new son Jackson on January 14. He weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.

Jan. 11, 2008: Thomas Lee, business reporter at the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Miami ELP Class of 2005 graduate, has been awarded a Jefferson Fellowship by the East West Center. Lee will travel to China in May to study growth and development issues.

Dec. 7, 2007: Katie Nelson, a graduate of the Scottsdale ELP Class of 2006, and a reporter from The Arizona Republic, will be taking a one-year staff position at The Cambodia Daily. She also intends to freelance from Southeast Asia.

Dec. 7, 2007: Angie Lau's production company has launched "Simply Gourmet" on TLC.com. Angie is Investigative Consumer Reporter at WEWS TV in Cleveland and a graduate of the Miami ELP Class of 2005.

Wilson Toy, who's been executive producer of WLS, Channel 7's morning newscast for five years in Chicago, is moving to executive producer of the 4 and 6 p.m. newscasts at the same station.

Sara Goo delivered her son, Silas Kahanu Rhein on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at noon. He weighed in at 9 pounds, 1 ounce and measured 21.5 inches.

The award was to National Radio Project's "Making Contact" episode called "Waves of Change, Rivers of Doubt: Global Water Issues and Solutions." I was the Producer/Reporter on "Water Privatization."

Oct 12, 2007: Rosa Yum, general assignment reporter at WNEP-TV, Scranton, PA, was nominated for two Emmys: "General Assignment Report" and "Newscast - Evening" where she did a live report about the "Flood of 2006."

Oct 12, 2007: Vanessa Hua, former staff writer at the San Francisco Chronicle has received a fellowship to work on a novel at the MFA program at UC Riverside in Southern California.

Oct 12, 2007: Shannon Troetel, a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program New York Class of 2002, after working at various positions at CNN for the past 15 years, most recently as senior producer, has become an assignment manager at NY 1 News.

Oct 12, 2007: David Ibata, formerly rewrite editor/breaking news producer for Chicago Tribune Interactive, and Executive Leadership Program graduate of the Class of 1998 in St. Petersburg, is now the dispatch editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He will be assisting the newspaper’s breaking news operation – supervising reporters, making assignments, doing rewrite and editing copy for the AJC Web site and the newspaper.

Sept. 28, 2007: Catherine Shen will join the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as senior VP of human resources. Catherine worked with the King County Journal before it was sold.

May 25, 2007: Chiaki Kawajiri in collaboration with two other Baltimore Sun reporters is a 2007 Gerald Loeb Award finalist in the medium newspapers catergory for the story "Crab Factory."

May 18, 2007: Student members Nicole Dungca, Daniel Sato and Donna Tam on were named Chips Quinn Scholars for Summer 2007 by the Freedom Forum and participating newspapers. Chipps Quinn Scholars are college students or recent graduates with career aspirations in journalism and will work in 10-12 week internships.

May 18, 2007: South Bay Bureau Chief for KTVU Fox 2 Oakland Lloyd LaCuesta will be the recipient of the Communications award in the Filipinas Magazine 10th Annual Achievement Awards.

May 4, 2007: K. Oanh Ha, formerly with the San Jose Mercury News, was named a finalist for the 2006 Livingston Awards for Young Journalists. Three winners will be named on June 5 and awarded $10,000 each, the nation's largest all-media, general reporting prizes for Local, National, and International Reporting to journalists under the age of 35.

May 4, 2007: Janice Gin, Associate News Director at KTVU-TV in Oakland/San Francisco, has been reelected as a director-at-large on the board of the Radio and Television News Directors Association. Gin will also continue as chairperson of RTNDA's Diversity Committee.

April 13: MidWeek web editor and senior writer Linda Dela Cruz was selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the 2007 Small Business Journalist of the year for the City and County of Honolulu. She was recognized by the Honolulu City Council and Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann for her accomplishment. She and 25 other US SBA awardees will be honored at Hyatt Regency Waikiki April 27.

March 27: Cecilia Kang, a business reporter at The Washington Post and the treasurer of the Washington D.C. chapter, welcomes son Tigin Han Unsal, who was born March 27. He weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 23 inches long.

Feb. 23, 2007: Congratulations to Stanton Tang, former National VP for Broadcast. Riley Jake An-Li was born on Feb. 23 at 7 pounds 4 ounces and 19 1/2 inches in height. Baby, Mommy, Big Sister and Daddy are all doing fine.

Feb. 13, 2007: Congratulations to Christina Leonard Lozano, assistant business editor at The Arizona Republic, (and Chicago ELP Class of 2004 graduate) who along with her husband welcomed their new son, Kaden Grey Lozano on Tuesday, February 13. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 2 oz. and measured 19 inches long.

Jan. 12, 2007: Carol Wang is now an evening anchor for Action 3 News KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska. She was previously an evening anchor at KFMB in Waco, Texas.

Jan. 4, 2007: Fred Katayama and his wife Kaoriko welcomed the arrival of their first newborn. Justin Hidetoshi Kuge Katayama arrived 4:38 PM in New York City on Thursday, January 4. Fred credits ELP for preparing him about the need for "balance" between family life and career.

Dec. 22, 2006: Aric Johnson, education editor at The Arizona Republic has been named editor/instructor of the paper's new multimedia partnership with Arizona State University. The Arizona Republic-Cronkite School multimedia journalism project is a multi-platform Information Center. Johnson will work with 15 ASU students to provide breaking news content to azcentral.com. Johnson worked on VOICES and is 2001 ELP graduate.

Dec. 22, 2006: Victoria Lim, consumer investigative reporter for WFLA in Tampa, has been named Journalist of the Year in the 2006 Florida Society of Professional Journalists Awards of Excellence contest. Victoria tackles problems and finds solutions for people in need of help as part of the converged operation that includes WFLA, The Tampa Tribune and tbo.com.

Nov. 13, 2006: Melody Merin is now managing editor of AAPS Newsmagazine, the monthly publication of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists based in Arlington, Va. She was previously departments editor of Diabetes Forecast magazine.

Nov. 10, 2006: Amy Wu (ELP Class of 2006, Scottsdale), is leaving the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y. for a reporting position at The Deal, a business magazine based in New York City. She will write about mergers and acquisitions, and a column that profiles the people behind the deals.

Sept. 13, 2006: Pati Poblete is now the Editorial Page Editor of the Honolulu Advertiser, and recently had a book published by Heyday Books, entitled The Oracles: My Filipino Grandparents in America. Listen to an interview on Pinoy Pod, a podcast by the San Francisco Chronicle, where Poblete was a columnist.

Sept. 6, 2006: Edward Iwata, business reporter at USA Today, has been named a fellow at the University of Hawaii East West Center's Hong Kong-China Journalism Fellowship. He will travel to China on a study tour this fall.

Sept. 1, 2006: Dalton Tanonaka becomes co-host for a new weekly half-hour English-language program titled "Indonesia Now." Tanonaka is a former CNN International anchor.

Sept. 1, 2006: Yuki Kaneshige is promoting Asian American designer Christine Jieun Park, who will launch "PLAY by Jieun," a fall / winter line of intimate apparel, during New York Fashion Week.

Sept. 1, 2006: Theoden Janes, a 2001 ELP graduate in Scottsdale, is now the entertainment editor at The Charlotte Observer. He previously worked at The Record as deputy features editor. "I'm absolutely positive ELP works," said Janes.

Sept. 1, 2006: Christine Tanaka has been named news director for WRBL-TV, a Columbus, GA, CBS affiliate. She was previously news director at KIMT-TV, Mason City, IA.

Sept. 1, 2006: Brian Wong was one of three ESPN employees selected to participate in the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications Executive Leadership Development Program for 2006-07.

Sept. 1, 2006: Lily Eng, a 1996 ELP graduate, is now director of public relations at Seattle PR firm Nyhus. She was previously a media consultant, a writer and editor for the Los Angeles Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Seattle Times and other newspapers, and was a Poynter Institute for Journalism fellow.

Aug. 23, 2006: Christina Leonard, a 2004 ELP graduate in Chicago, is now the Assistant Business Editor at The Arizona Republic. She will oversee the tourism and consumer team. She had been the Night City Editor.

Aug. 8, 2006: Christine Chen and Rachanee Srisavasdi were selected as 2006 Fall Jefferson Fellows. They will travel to Asia this fall.

July 27, 2006: Doris Truong has been named Deputy Metro Copy Chief (Extras) of The Washington Post She also sits on the AAJA board.

July 26, 2006: TV and print journalist Y. Euny Hong released a book entitled "Kept." Publisher Simon & Schuster describes her book as "brilliant, wickedly funny tale that examines sexuality, class, and family ties among the bright young things of Manhattan."

June 2, 2006: Reuters' Betty Wong named as one of the most influential women in American business journalism by Newsroom Confidential. Listen to the interivew on KRLA radio.

June 2, 2006: Darren Lyn will become national correspondent for Houston-based ESPN. Lyn leaves KTRK in Houston where he was a general assignment reporter.

May 26, 2006: Betty Liu, a correspondent with CNBC Asia, released a self-help book on Prentice Hall aimed at baby boomers entitled "Age Smart: Discovering The Fountain of Youth At Midlfe and Beyond."

May 25, 2006: Maria Arcega-Dunn and Lee Ann Kim were honored for their service to the community during the Asian Heritage Awards in San Diego.

May 10, 2006: Katharine Fong, of the Mercury News, received a Tribute to Women Award, which honors executive level women.
