"Crossing East" Radio Documentary Wins Peabody Award

"Crossing East", eight 54-minute radio documentaries on the history of Asian American immigration, won a 2006 Peabody Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in electronic media. "Crossing East" is the first radio series to explore Asian American history in depth. The installments drew on sources that included more than 500 hours of oral history interviews conducted for the project.

AAJA members involved in the project were executive producer Dmae Roberts and segment producers Robynn Takayama and Ruby de Luna, all past winners of AAJA National Awards. Former AAJA members contributed to the project: Miae Kim, Trang Ho, Nguyen Qui Duc, Stephanie Loleng and Deepa Ranganathan.
