AAJA: Asian American Journalists Association

19th Annual National Convention

Annual AAJA General Membership Meeting
August 2, 2007, Thursday, noon-1:30 p.m., Hyatt Regency Miami

AAJA members are encouraged to present open comments on the issues of their choice. Meet AAJA National Board members and hear about the state of the organization from AAJA National President Jeanne Mariani-Belding. National committee members are also encouraged to attend.

Findings will be shared from the AAJA 2007 Focus Project: Membership Survey, the first scientific study of how Asian American and Pacific Islander members feel about journalism, ranging from job satisfaction to interest in entering management.

Conducted in the spring, the survey asked AAJA members how likely they see themselves staying in the profession, how media consolidation has affected the industry, and what impact they individually had in their newsrooms on diversity efforts including coverage of ethnic and racial minorities. The questionnaire also asked what AAJA could do to further help develop members' skills and careers. Overseeing the survey were Christopher Callahan, dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University, and ASU professor and researcher Stephen K. Doig.

Coordinators: AAJA National Membership Committee chaired by Ameet Sachdev. AAJA 2007 Focus Project coordinated by Abe Kwok and sponsored by The World Journal.
