August 1-4, 2007, Miami, Florida
Hyatt Regency Miami
The Opening Reception for AAJA’s 19th Annual National Convention will be held from 7 to 9pm on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. Situated at the cultural crossroads of the Americas, the Center is one of the largest performing arts centers anywhere. Strategically located in Downtown Miami, the Center was designed by world-renowned architect Cesar Pelii of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. The design team includes theater planning and design consultant Josua Dachs of Fischer Dachs Associates, Inc. and acoustician Russell Johnson of ARTEC, Inc.
The $446 million complex is owned by Miami-Dade County. It opened in 2006, 5 years after the groundbreaking in the fall of 2001. The Center’s principal components includes the 2,400-seat Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, the 2,200-seat Knight Concert Hall, a Studio Theater, the outdoor Plaza for the Arts, the Art Deco Tower, the Peacock Education Center and magnificent public art installations by five outstanding artists commissioned by Miami-Dade Art in Public Places.
The Opening Reception is sponsored by The McClatchy Company and The Miami Herald.
Shuttle buses to and from the reception site are made possible through the generosity of Nova Southeastern University.
