The following seminars are offered free to convention registrants who can arrive before the convention begins to devote extra time to professional development. Advance registration highly recommended, as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. All registrants will be notified about their enrollment. AUDIO STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
8:30 AM TO 5 PM

What makes a good audio story? Whether your goal is to do a full-blown radio story, use audio clips in your blog, accompany photos on the web, or create a podcast, this one-day overview workshop by NPR will show you how to understand audio's storytelling strengths, select the best audio, write for the ear, and write to sound. You'll also get an opportunity to use audio recording equipment and to do digital audio editing. Workshop presenters: Sora Newman, Senior Trainer and Rolando Arrieta, Production Trainer. You'll hear from professionals who can help improve your writing and research, digital skills, and understanding of what it takes to succeed in this fast-changing environment. A HARMONIC CONVERGENCE: MID-CAREER AND BEYOND

For journalists to prosper, they must be aware of the possibilities of technology to enhance the narrative of their news reports. Join these senior New York Times editors and producers for a hands-on session in building out that part of your portfolio. This half-day panel, aimed at seasoned professionals, will focus on multimedia storytelling. Participants will develop a story idea into an audio slideshow, from inception to post-production. They will discuss what works and what doesn't in this form of storytelling, and they will analyze examples of excellent multimedia presentations done on deadline. ONLINE VIDEO: THE BASICS AND BEYOND
BACK BAY I (MEZZANINE LEVEL)
1 PM TO 6 PM

This hands-on session offers participants an opportunity to produce an interactive video story on-site and on deadline with coaching from the workshop panelists. In tandem with CNN staff, the selected participants will choose a story, write/shoot it and build a digital video experience using various software and hardware. From the story's inception to production and publication, the works produced in the Wednesday session will be part of a highly interactive dialogue illustrating the next-generation reporting of tomorrow during two 90-minute sessions on Thursday and Friday. A selection committee will choose up to 5 qualified participants. Submit a resume to
