Tsunami Coverage and Relief

Members, supporters and friends of AAJA responded vigorously after the December 26, 2004 earthquake and tsunami disaster, which claimed many lives and caused devastation to communities in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and East Africa. The countries affected are the homelands for many of our members, their families and friends.

The South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) posted information on how to find journalists in South Asia to cover the tsunami disaster. They also hosted a blog for news and information about resources, aid, donations and volunteer efforts. For reporting tips on South Asia visit SAJA's page on the 2004 Tsunami Disaster.

PR Newswire dedicated portions of their Web sites to highlight news and information related to the aftermath. Click here for news releases issued to the public.

The American Red Cross posted information about relief efforts and what to do if you are trying to contact family or friends in the regions affected. Amazon posted that 100 percent of donations through their site went to the American Red Cross.

For guidelines and tips on covering Asian countries -- including those affected by the Tsunami disaster, please refer to AAJA's handbook,"All-American: How to Cover Asian America."
