Scholarships & Internship Grants

Jimmie & Suey Fong Yee Scholarship

The AAJA Sports Task Force is pleased to offer one scholarship to current college students interested in sports journalism, and one scholarship to recent college graduates (within 3 years) to help cover expenses related to travel and accommodations for the 2017 AAJA National Convention in Philadelphia, July 26 – 29. The scholarships are made possible thanks to a $1,000* donation made by Don Yee (of sports talent agency Yee & Dubin Sports, LLC.).

Vincent Chin Memorial Scholarship

In honor of Chin and thanks to the generosity of Joe Grimm, a former newsroom recruiter and staff development editor for the Detroit Free-Press, the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) has established a college scholarship. This scholarship rewards an accomplished, community-minded student journalist for an insightful, articulate essay related to Chin and his legacy.

Mary Quon Moy Ing Memorial Scholarship

AAJA will award up to $2,000 to a currently enrolled college student or graduating high school senior who is pursuing journalism as a career.

AAJA Partners with Columbia Journalism School to Offer Student Scholarships

AAJA is partnering with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism to provide scholarships to five AAJA student members to be able to attend the 2017 AAJA National Convention in Philadelphia, July 26 – 29. Each scholarship winner will be awarded $750 from this Columbia grant.
