SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Filipino American Humanitarian Foundation, Inc., honored the San Diego chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association with the 2017 Historical Heritage Excellence Award. AAJA San Diego President Liberty Zabala and Secretary/Treasurer Kris Vera-Phillips accepted the award at the foundation’s 25th Silver Anniversary Gala at the San Diego Marriott in Mission Valley on March 26.
San Diego Fil-Am Humanitarian Foundation nominated AAJA San Diego along with 24 other honorees, including the Philippine American Press Club, San Diego Museum of Art and the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra.
Foundation founder Dr. Barbara Yorobe and Philippine Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz presented the awards to organizations who made a difference in the Filipino American community.
The foundation recognized AAJA San Diego milestones, including its 30th Anniversary Celebration, when the chapter connected young reporters and students with successful Asian American journalists.
