AAJA joins NAHJ and CPJ in expressing deep concern over the deportation of journalist Mario Guevara

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) joins the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in expressing deep concern over the deportation of journalist Mario Guevara.

Guevara, an award-winning Spanish language journalist, had been detained in ICE custody since June for his coverage of the No Kings protests against the Trump administration’s policies. Guevara was deported today, after a U.S. Appeals Court denied Guevara’s motion for stay of his removal.

Last month, AAJA signed on to efforts by a CPJ- and Free Press-led coalition of press freedom and civil rights organizations to call for the immediate release of Guevara.

AAJA stands in support of Guevara and the rights of journalists to carry out their work without fear of retaliation, silencing, or any action that undermines the rights of a free press.
