This Lunar New Year, we’re grateful for our AAJA family

To our AAJA family,

As this Year of the Wood Snake begins, I find myself profoundly grateful for our AAJA community.

Across the world, our chapters are ringing in the Lunar New Year with parties, banquets, and brunches. Whether or not you grew up celebrating Lunar New Year in your household, AAJA has helped make it a cherished holiday for many of us. We all have fond memories of this time – that one Lunar New Year party that finally made you feel welcome in a new city, or the one that introduced you to a lifelong friend.

But as we gather to celebrate family and community, we are also reflecting on our members and their resilience amid times of uncertainty and tragedy. Right now, we have members diligently working on informing the world about the devastating plane crash in Washington, D.C. We are thinking of our friends in AAJA’s Los Angeles chapter, who provided the heartbreaking but essential coverage of the wildfires that hit their hometowns, and offered grants to those who have been affected. We also stand ready to help those who have been affected by newsroom cuts across the industry – including providing a free membership that can connect them to our vast network and resources.

Even though the new year is already being shaped by intense change and tumult, we know that AAJA will always be a refuge of joy and connection.

Thank you for helping us build such a strong organization, and may you have a prosperous and abundant new year.

In solidarity,
Nicole Dungca
