AAJA is accepting applications for the 2026 Executive Leadership Program, a professional development program which helps mid to senior career journalists and media professionals build community, grow their confidence, and develop the practical leadership skills needed to thrive in today’s evolving media landscape.
The 2026 cohort will participate in a hybrid program that blends virtual instruction with in-person learning. The program begins with an opening session in Washington, D.C. from April 22-25, followed by virtual sessions throughout the spring, and concludes with an in-person session at #AAJA26 in Minneapolis on Wednesday, June 24. Attendance at all live sessions is required, and participants must ensure access to a computer, webcam, and stable internet connection.
Tuition for the program is $1,750 for AAJA members and $2,250 for non-members, covering training materials, meals during on-site programming, and basic registration for the 2026 AAJA National Convention. A variety of AAJA scholarships and fellowships are available to help fellows attend the program. More information can be found in the application.

MORE ABOUT ELP
The Executive Leadership Program (ELP) is for any individual with at least four to seven years of experience working across the journalism and media industry interested in advancing their careers and developing the skills to achieve their professional and personal goals. ELP is a challenging, practical, and life-changing experience.
This is not a business-as-usual program about how to become a better manager. It is a transformational experience program aimed at developing the next diverse generation of journalism and media leaders who can lead in uncertain times and build a sustainable future for journalism.
The program explores the responsibilities and challenges of a media workplace, how to lead in the changing landscape and how cultural values come into play. Experienced career coaches and senior news executives lead participants as they explore a variety of topics in a small, nurturing environment. Learn more about ELP here.
