The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is looking for a spring 2023 intern with a start date of March 13. Timing has some flexibility, with the opportunity to continue through the summer to staff AAJA’s 2023 national convention in Washington, D.C. 

The internship will be in a hybrid format, working remotely as well as from the national office in Washington, D.C. at least twice a week. The intern will commit to a minimum of 20 hours/week with a modest monthly stipend commensurate with their time availability.

Administration

    • Data entry and maintenance: assist with updating membership contact information, donations, and outreach lists
    • Update website and database as needed

Communications

    • Monitor and document media mentions
    • Monitor social media accounts, and coordinate content relevant to AAJA’s programs and initiatives (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
    • Contribute to copywriting and producing content across AAJA’s channels, such as for the member newsletter

Programs and Initiatives

    • Assist with virtual and in-person event planning and logistics, including: booking conference rooms; coffee, water, catering as necessary for meetings; printing/distributing agendas; computer and presentation setup; facilitating with directions; greeting guests and helping them get situated
    • A recent graduate or currently enrolled student in an accredited university or college as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student
    • Comfortable working on a team as well as working on your own. Some days are fast-paced and deadline-driven. Some days we rely on you to self-manage.
    • Stellar writing and communication skills.
    • Access to a computer and stable Internet for remote portions of the role
    • Knowledge of or interest in AAPI history and context, media and diversity, and equity and inclusion efforts
    • Knowledge and experience of the following apps and platforms: WordPress, MemberSuite, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Airtable and Clockify
