The media needs more diverse sources. Are you one of them? Join the AAJA Media Institute for an intense two-and-a-half-day workshop that will coach you on how to tell your story and share your expertise with the media.

Now in its fourth year, the Media Institute is produced by the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) and led by a team of award-winning journalists. Our goal is to train thought leaders and sources, bringing more diverse voices to the conversation.

Since our inaugural workshop in 2014, AAJA Media Institute alumni have gone on to appear on local and national television, including C-SPANMSNBC and NBC’s Today Show. They have published editorials. They have been featured in major news publications. And they have contributed to the national debate on healthcare, the economy, politics and more.

This year’s workshop will be held August 9-11 in Houston, TX. You will learn how to tell your story in print, television and online formats. You will learn how a newsroom operates, get tips on becoming camera-ready and practice answering tough interview questions. By the end of the boot camp, you will also leave with a professional headshot and a video clip that showcases your expertise. The workshop will take place at the same time as AAJA’s 2018 National Convention, allowing you the opportunity to network with journalists from all over the world.

The application deadline is Saturday, June 30, 2018 11:59pm PT.

The registration fee is $250 per person. The application process is competitive and space is limited; you are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Placement in the program will given on a rolling basis. Applications will be assessed and places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The sooner you apply, the sooner you will hear back. AAJA reserves the right to deny registration and sponsorship, to any individual or company, that may result in a conflict of interest for our organization. Residents of Houston are highly encouraged to register. All applicants accepted will be notified by July 3, 2018.

Please be aware that participants will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging during the program dates. Email justins@aaja.org with questions.
