Join AAJA’s 2027 VOICES cohort!
The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is seeking passionate undergraduate and graduate storytellers eager to strengthen their reporting skills through an intensive, multimedia journalism fellowship. Selected fellows will have the opportunity to produce ambitious reporting on a wide range of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) issues, with stories featured on the AAJA VOICES website and opportunities for republication with community news partners.
Previous VOICES fellows have produced stories that were republished by news outlets including the Tampa Bay Times, Technical.ly, AsAmNews, and The Oregonian.
VOICES combines virtual workshops, hands-on reporting and mentorship from experienced journalists to help students take their storytelling to the next level. Fellows will develop and report their own stories while gaining experience with multimedia journalism, data and visual storytelling, video, distribution and other skills essential to today’s newsrooms.
VOICES 2027 will begin with virtual workshops and reporting in late spring and culminate in person at #AAJA27 in San Francisco, California, from July 14–18, 2027.
Application Requirements
Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in journalism and storytelling. The application includes a resume, work samples or portfolio and responses to short questions about the applicant’s interests and goals.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, December 16 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
ABOUT VOICES
VOICES is a student fellowship program that equips student journalists with career-ready skills to succeed in the continually evolving media landscape. The program aims to help journalists understand how audiences engage with them, how communities view the work they produce and how they can understand the impact their work has. By nurturing relationships between students and professional volunteers, VOICES gives fellows the opportunity to tap into mentors’ networks and grow their own.
