AAJA offers an ESPN internship and financial support for students who have secured internships

Summer internships are on the horizon, and AAJA wants to support our student members who have internships secured – or who are still searching for opportunities. As many scholarship deadlines have closed, AAJA continues to offer internship grants and an additional internship opportunity in collaboration with ESPN and AAJA’s Sports Task Force.

We’re excited to award outstanding young journalists through these opportunities! If you have any questions, reach out to support@aaja.org

ESPN / Sports Task Force Internship

ESPN and the AAJA Sports Task Force offers a joint internship for sports journalism college students at ESPN that will begin in the summer of 2022. Applications will be submitted to ESPN from the AAJA Sports Task Force. The ideal candidate will fill a Social Media internship at ESPN. The selected intern will receive a $3,500 stipend. The deadline to apply is April 1. Apply here.

Internship Grants

AAJA offers internship grants to students who have secured summer internships, to defray expenses and living costs related to their internships. Please check each opportunity for grant amounts and eligibility requirements.

We prioritize broadcast journalists for the Broadcast News Internship Grants (Lloyd LaCuesta, Sam Chu Lin), students from the Pacific Northwest or who attend a Northwest college or university interning at small to medium sized outlets for Stanford Chen Internship Grant and AAPIs pursuing journalism careers in print or digital news for the William Woo Internship Grant.

Applications for all internship grants are due on April 8.  Learn more and apply for internship grants here.
